Trail Lawyers Target Supreme Court
(RALEIGH) - Liberal trial lawyers have formed a 527 political
organization to affect the 2006 North Carolina Supreme Court races.
"Fairjudges.net" claims to be a bipartisan group formed to provide
accurate information independent of any candidate or political
committee, but a closer examination of its roots reveals a much more
political purpose.
"Fairjudges.net is nothing more than a front group for liberal
personal injury trial lawyers who have a vested interest in who sits
on the North Carolina Supreme Court," said Republican State Chairman
Ferrell Blount. "These are the same people who make their living
off of other people's suffering with their exorbitant jury awards
that cause our medical bills to skyrocket. They are misleading the
voters about who they are and what they want."
The executive director of Fairjudges.net is Scott Falmlen, former
Executive Director of the North Carolina and Florida Democrat
Parties. In 1995, the St. Petersburg Times called Falmlen "an
admitted liar" for his role in a campaign scam to deceive senior
citizens during Florida's 1994 gubernatorial election.
The largest contributor on record to fairjudges.net is the North
Carolina Academy Trial Lawyers Political Action Committee which has
been a supporter of primarily Democrat candidates. All of the
contributors on record are trial lawyers; however the complete list
of contributors is unavailable. 527 political groups will not have
to file their current list of contributors until January 31, 2007,
well after the election.
"I call upon Scott Falmlen and his liberal trial lawyer buddies to
release their complete contributor list now, before the election,"
said Ferrell Blount. "The people have a right to know who is trying to influence them and the trail lawyers should not masquerade as a
group of disinterested citizens. They are very interested in who
sits on the highest court in North Carolina."
