Mrs.Hunter,

You might can't answer my question however I did vote for you last time. I would like to know that I am voting for a person that will up hold the Laws.Great job on UNC-TV.

How do you feel about Underage Drinking Parties and Host being convicted for breaking the Law?

You know this is a real problem in NC however due to one of these parties I loss my 15 1/2 year old daughter my only child.I feel the Laws need to be enforced asap here in Lexington NC the law on this is ignored no one was ever charged even after they dumped her body out.If it wasn't my daughter this could og been anyone daughter therefore I need to know your opinion.

Dear Lori,

First let me say that I am truly sorry for your loss. My first fiance died many years ago so I know what loss of this kind is like. Although the pain of that was awful, it must be far worse to lose a child, particularly through a senseless act.

There was a move afoot ten years or so ago to impose greater liability on social hosts. Generally, social hosts are not liable unless there was some acto of negligence, such as continuing to serve a visibly intoxicated person.

Social hosts of adults is not quite the same as serving alcohol to minors. Young people and alcohol do not mix and can lead to tragic results.

Serving alcohol to minors is a crime and if adults enable minors to get alcohol, they should face the consequences, both civilly and criminally.

I hope this helps. If the authorities are not going to enforce the laws in Lexington, then find someone who will and support them in getting elected.

Best wishes,

Rachel
