I got to admit - you are putting a tremendous amount of effort into
your
campaign. Your thoughtfulness should be commended. I just tried to read
have
of your analysis on the SC cases, which Martin did not write, and my
head
started spinning.
I went to Mark Martin's website thoguh, and I found no mud slinging or
negative campaiging. The stories about you, albeit negative, were
mostly
stories or editorials printed in the newspapers. Is there anywhere on
his
site he attacks you?
Dean
Dear Dean,
What you say is true in one sense. No, he did not personally say
things
about me. But, as you seem to be knowledgeable about politics, why
would
someone put up negative articles about one's opponent at the
candidate's own
campaign website? Should not the website be about him and the
wonderful
things he has done? The information is under news about him. Why
mention
me at all? And what is the purpose of the articles if not to cast me
in a
negative light? Of course it's a way to smear me, just in a more
sophisticated manner.
One of the rules of politics is that you don't mention your opponent
and
certainly not on your own website like this. However, he can run his
campaign as he wishes. Just as I can run my own campaign. Since
the
gloves are off, the voters have a right to know exactly what kind of
justice
they have elected and they can decide if they want someone like this on
the
court. The only difference is that I will not stoop to his level of
personal attacks like he is "looney," "insane," a "racist" or the other
charges which have been hurled at me.
You also miss the point of those nasty articles. Those articles were
planted in the newspaper by the Soprano-like NC GOP. This is all part
of
their strategy to portray me in an unflattering and negative light
because
they realize that their own candidate is in trouble. He could simply
have
not repeated the idle gossip and the planted stories which have been
forgotten. Instead, he wants to keep it before the public. You may have
your
own opinion, but the justice is very much aware of this and is a part
of it.
Cordially,
Rachel
