The North Carolina Agribusiness Council

The North Carolina Agribusiness Council invites you to participate in the NC Supreme Court Candidates Forum at its 37th Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet on Monday, August 14, 2006. The event will be held at the North Raleigh Hilton in Raleigh, NC and will include approximately 500 Agribusiness Leaders from across the state.

The event begins at 4:30 pm with a reception/social and dinner will start at 6:00 pm with the Candidates Forum starting shortly after we finish eating. The format for the Candidates Forum will include two minute opening remarks for both you and your opponent followed by three questions for which you each will have one minute to answer. The suggested questions will be provided to you in the next couple of weeks and will be agreed upon by you and your opponent.

Because of the position for which you are running, the Agribusiness Council understands that you are not able to answer questions regarding topics upon which you might be likely to rule. The questions are merely a means to help the audience get to know you better and develop an understanding about your legal philosophy. Again, you and your opponent will approve in advance the three questions you will be asked.

The NC Agribusiness Council has a history of hosting Candidates Forum during election years, most recently hosting a US Senate Candidates Forum between Erskine Bowles and Elizabeth Dole and two years later between Erskine Bowles and Richard Burr. We also hosted a Candidates Forum for NC Commissioner of Labor (Cherie Berry and Wayne Goodwin) as well as NC Commissioner of Agriculture (Steve Troxler & Britt Cobb).

This year’s Candidates Forum for NC Supreme Court Justices is being sponsored by Hunton & Williams and they will be assisting the Agribusiness Council with logisitics regarding the Candidates Forum. Please look for one of us to contact you in the next few days to followup with you about this invitation to participate in the NC Supreme Court Candidates Forum.

The Agribusiness Industry recognizes how important the judicial branch is to our democratic process of government. Our members look forward to learning more about you so they make a more informed decision regarding their vote in November. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to you participating.

Sincerely,

Erica Peterson
Executive Vice President
